Had #4 plug let loose from the head. Had it fixed at a shop. Few days later....it seems to have a miss. Runs ok taking off.....but as soon as it goes into OD...it stumbles and misses......if the RPM's get around 2K...it runs ok. Hooked a scanner up and it showed misfire on #4. Just checked the plug and replaced the coil. Cleared the code and now the scanner says..."pending code...P0304" which is going to show a misfire on #4. Anybody have any ideas?? Truck has 106K miles.
Check the plastic clip that goes to the COP. My 99' had a busted one when the dealer changed a COP out under warranty.
I would check all the wiring going to that COP as the COP went flying when the plug let go.
Checked the clip...all good. It did not go flying out....I heard the exhaust sound and looked under the hood....indication was the broken mounting tab on the coil. Cleared all pending codes and drove......still showed up as pending misfire #4.
Well....checked everything out...wires to the coil are good.......even another new coil to try....still had a miss on #4....shop did a compression check.....down to 40LBs on that cylinder. Now trying to find out why?? Most likely a burnt exhaust valve. Would the shop that repaired the spark plug hole cause the damage? Like chips stuck under the valve when reaming the hole out??
Was given a quote to repair....about $4K. They said either the cab comes off or the motor gets pulled to get the head off. Is this about right??
