I have a 2005 F250 with the camper springs in back. I need new shocks now and was thinking about the Rancho RS9000. I hope to get a small 2"-3" lift later this year, but it might be as far off as Nov time frame.
Can I buy the longer shocks now and run them without a lift kit or would they bottom out too easy? Truck is used mostly for city and highway use. An occasional trail once in a while, but not really four wheeling. I hate to have to buy another set of shocks when I do get the lift kit if I can avoid it.
How would the ride be with 2" longer shocks and no lift kit?
Your F250 should have 2" blocks in the back between the axle and leaf springs. If you raise it 2" then it will be just like a F350, which has 4" blocks. Given that the F250 and F350 use the same shocks, you don't need longer shocks when lifting the back 2".
You don't need longer shocks if you do a level kit like the mini-spring pack because it keeps you lower shock mount in the same place. If you use lift springs, which replace your factory springs, then you will need longer shocks.
I just got done putting 4" blocks in the rear and a mini-spring pack up front for a 2" lift on both ends and the stock shocks are fine.
