Well finally quit lurking as I need some help. I have a 97 PSD with about 95k on it. Just put a TS chip in it and was appalled at how bad my milage dropped. Went down to 10 on the 75 horse increase setting at 68 MPH, I was getting 15. Half way through our trip I began to smell raw diesel and have been watching a fuel puddle begin in my valley. Next I found that I was also leaking Coolant off the front of the block. I am going to get it good and warm tomorrow and see if I can find the coolant leak, figuring on just doing the water pump while I am in there.
As to the fuel leak. Where can I find a shop manual for the truck and what should I be looking for. I thought it sounded like the fuel lifter pump but it is not acting like a seive more like a steady slow leak that puddles then dripps off the rear of the block and off the front of the tranny housing.
Gotta find the leak, I doubt you are dropping 5mpg because of the chip. Sounds like the leak is killing you. Check the fuel bowl itself, check the lines to the heads. Just gotta find it...
Your fuel leak could be a number of things. The most common leak is the fuel restriction sensor. Its located on the drivers side of the fuel pressure regulator which is attached to the fuel bowl. If thats the case it can replaced with a 1/8" npt plug from the hardware store. Other than that you'll have to clean the valley up real good and use an inspection mirror to find the leak.
Well it looks like it is the Fuel Restricter senser. At a high Idle it was a pretty constant drip. I can't imagine what it was doing under a load. So I can just put a plug in this and totally detach the sensor using the above stated method with out any problems?
