Another odd noise

When I back up and then put the truck in drive I get a loud "TINK". It also does it when I go from park to drive. I got under there and looked at the drive shaft and everything seems to be in order, the only thing I knoticed is that there is a little play in the DS at the carrier bearing, I just greased it up about 3 months ago. I have no idea what it could be any ideas? I know how much everyoune hates trying to pin point strange noises over the computer but help would be nice thanks

"TINK" is a classic symptom for a failing U-joint. With as heavy as the drive shafts are, you probably will not be able to tell there's a problem while it's installed. Drop it and then check, bet you'll be surprised..

Remember to mark every part of the drive shaft that you remove, so when it's reinstalled, it will be clocked properly and maintain the factory balance. Other wise your next post may be for a strange vibration.

I want to drop my drive shaft to put the gear grease on the slip joint to fix my clunk. Anything else I should look at while its down? Like these ujoints for example.

Check the u-joints and regrease the slip yoke and u-joints and thats about all there is to do down there

Ill drop the drive shaft to check the u-joints tomorrow, I just had them replaced not too long ago.

Hmmm, what brand were they replaced with? Big trucks can eat Autozone, Advanced, etc. type driveline parts. If you replace them again, I'd recommend OE or Dana.

Well that'll pretty much tell you it was the units that yielded them the most profit.
