I am getting ready to replace the carpet/rubber mat in my 87 F-150 4X4 and need to replace the rubber boot for the transfer case, but on LMC they show them available for the 88-96 models only. Are the 87-88 actually different ?
I think the only manual transmission offered in the 87 F150 was the BW T18 4 speed.
The T18 was discontinued some time around 1990.
The Mazda 5 speed was introduced in 1988.
The shape of the transmission tunnels are different. The 4 speed tunnel was wider and flatter
on top so the boot for the transfer case mounted to a flat surface.
The is a picture of the transfer case shifter boot used if you had a Mazda trans.
years 88-96. It doesn't show the angle when it's mounted but it mounts to the side of
the transmission tunnel. So if you have the 4 speed trans. the boot below won't work.
You will have to forgive me asking a stupid question, but I have an automatic transmission and the 4X4 shifter on the hump is what I am speaking of.
Are you speaking of the same thing ??
OK, I found a shifter boot for just a 1987 truck on Dennis Carpenters site amd it is only $10.00 whereas the 88-96 is $70.00 on LMC before shipping.
Very large difference in price !
Disregard what I said in my first post. I just wanted to provide one
reason why the transfer case shifter boot for the 88-96 would not fit
your 87.
Here's a picture of the transfer case shifter boot for a 87 Bronco
(F150 should be the same). It mounts flat on the transmission hump
and not on the side of the tunnel.
I need the 87 only transfer case shifter boot. Has 4 bellows like the one originally asked about. I will probably have to modify something to make it work. I have an automatic transmission. The boot is flat at the mating surface.

I had to go out and have a look at my ‘87 Bronco (302/C6). I guess in the 25 years I’ve own the truck it never occurred to me that the transfer case shift boot was a one year only part since I never had to replace it. I found out the hard way that the manual hubs are oddball parts. Please excuse the mess. It doesn’t get used much anymore.
