Seems my 1992(351) stumbles under a load(hill) when pressing the accelator down harder. Hanes book shows hooking up a meter up to read codes -jumper between the sti pin and signal return and neg of meter to the selftest out put pin. Question ,is a meter needed? and will it also flash w/o meter. Also when sitting at redlight i feel pulastions sometimes rocking the bronco slighlty. Also ideling it seem to change rpms slightly .ALL input appreciated TR
You don't need the meter if you can concentrate on a blinking light (CEL) and count the flashes.
Regardless of what codes you do get, consider checking the throttle body for coking (appears as soot and carbon on the inner wall and throttle plates). If it is particularly dirty, you might want to remove and carefully clean the IAC (Idle Air Control valve and solenoid).
Thanks Grey, you know i have had this Bronco for 16 yrs and i have never checked the codes. Guess its time i did , any suggestons for the brakes being applied and vehicle motion can u disconnect the abs , i think abs is only rear for our years? TR
Yep, RABS only until 94. You can pull the fuse or the power relay for the system and the brakes will function just like a standard power brake system. You will want to pull the "ABS" indicator lamp out of the dashboard unless you can live with it glowing at you until it burns out. I personally loathe ABS.
