I have a 97' OBS 4x4 with rear drums. I scanned some sites for brake pads, discs, and drums. I occasionally haul/tow heavy loads and most of my driving is in the mountains in and around Santa Fe county New Mexico. I would like to get the best setup possible without converting to rear discs. Are the slotted, cross drilled style rotors good for our heavy trucks, or do they burn the pads up faster? Is it better to have a high quality stock style rotor? What pads front and rear? Where to buy?
Depends on your budget I suppose. I put the Motorcraft Superduty pads on the front and the Motorcraft shoes in the rear. Hawk pads are supposed to be pretty good from what I've read. Hard pads eat rotors so I've gotten away from those of late. You can check out Applied Rotor Technology for rotors. They are a sponsor here.
From what I have learned your better off with the stock rotors. I did the rear brake conversion and never regretted it. For the front, try Hawk pads, they are simply awesome! Really improved my stopping the 5er.
Thank you for the responses folks. Ya'll have given me a real good idea of which way to go. I can tell my fronts are a bit warped and also are starting to get a squeal here and there. So I figure I should tackle the whole system at once.
Thanks again
I will check out Applied Rotor Technology for sure
