Axle Replacement
I got tired of listening to the roaring coming from the rear end and dove into it last week. I found that the passenger side axle had a scored bearing journal. Apparently this is common on Ford 8.8's. So I ordered a replacement axle kit from Rock Auto and got it installed today. Those folks were easy to deal with and shipping was fairly quick. The replacement kit came with a new axle made by Dorman, a new bearing and seal. 2 hours later I am back on the road with a very quiet differential. The bearing journal on the original axle was scored pretty heavily all the way around. Don't know how that happened. Never been off road or buried in the mud.
I can recommend the Dorman axle kit. I was pleased with the quality of the parts.
