How much better MPG does a Manuel have over a automatic?
Background is. My uncle in Idaho says he is getting 15 MPG driving in mountains with a 2010 f350 xlt, v10, 4x4, 410, 18 wheels, Super Cab with 2 ATV in the back. I get nowhere near that in my 2009 f250 v10, KR, 410, 20 inch wheels, v10, 4x4, Crew Cab. I get some where around 10 - 11 in mountains.
The differences I see that word decrease my MPG are
Automatic
Crew Cab
California Gas
Is it even possible for a v10 to get 15 mpg doing that type of driving?
I used to get 14.5 mpg in my 2008 f350 extended cab, long box v-10 standard 410's and 275 70 18 tires with a tonneau cover. it is hilly terrain here, no mountains. now i get 13 mpg with 35's. i call bs on the 15 mpg with 2 atv's on the back. my calculations are all hand done. the display is out about 1 mpg. go to fuelly.com to see real world fuel consumptions for vehicles.

Reason: adding more info
CA gas will cost you at least 1-3 mpg. Are your tires wider than his?
15 seems awfully good for a 4x4.... Unless he keeps it at 55 or less. Then totally possible.
Since the advent of locking torque converters, freeway mpg differences between stick and automatic trans has dropped significantly. Should be less than 1 mpg on these trucks.
