I hear ya. Just getting old I guess. Had my first roll over at 16. It was on road not off. Dad gave me a lisence plate that reads THSIDUP (this side up). Constant reminder I guess. I still run that plate to this day, even though there have been a few off road mishaps in the last 18 years since then.
There is a place here locally that did a Ranger for me about 10 years ago and to this day, that truck is spotless! Unfortunately, they wanted about $900 to do my truck so..... Long story short, I'm working on getting my truck cleaned up body wise, and I plan to oil spray the wife's Odyssey as a test for the truck.
That POR-15 or gremplers would work for the frame and underbody, but what can you do to save the body panels from rusting?
A friend likes to restore 30s-40s vehicles. Hes been doing so for 20 years. He swears by this bed-liner called Herculiner.
He just preps the metal and coats it on, no primer. By prep I meant clear off scale, doing any grinding, etc.
I am going to use it on my fuel tank... it resists chips better than paint.
He also used it on fenders of his 37 coupe ford and everything. He coats frame with it. LIKE EVERYTHING lol
And he says its been working great for 20 yrs.
No personal experience, but the 38 chevy i got to look at he restored 8 years ago and its his DD it looked great!
Yeah I have heard of that too Alex. I'm trying POR15 on my truck. The parts I have done thus far (undercarriage) seem to be holding up well. It doesn't like sunlight, but all this stuff is under the truck anyway.
That's a question better suited to be answered by someone who knows more about auto body than I do. I don't know if you need to do that (or if you can without a bunch of work) or if you would be better off just giving it a good stripping and waxing. I honestly don't know.
From all the auto shows ive watched you can do whatever you please. lol Just different results!
Many 'barn finds' guys are just lightly water sanding it down and shooting a clearcoat over top to preserve the rustic look.
No idea of other options besides completely stripping/sanding it down and priming/painting/clearcoat/wet sand finish for the whole shebang.
