i have an 82 f100 LWB.
the tub tray is beyond repair, and so i am looking to replace it with a custom bed tray. I have searched high and low throughout the net, but have not been able to find any decent LWB custom jobs!
so i am turning to you guys for tips/ideas/inspirations
if your asking what I think you are, its going to be hard to find the bedpan custom for a LWB truck.
You can get replacements for the original from LMC, and its just a simple welding and cutting job to get it in. (oh what we wouldnt do for the days of wooden truckbeds again).
basically my truck currently has a well tub on the back.
its rusted out beyond any affordable repair.
im thinking of just getting rid of it and replacing it with a flat bed tray, but i dont think it looks as good as it would if it were swb.
mine is the LWB version in the pics below.
i cant decide if i like it or not, so was wondering if anyone else has done something similar? or had any other decent ideas?
I think you mean a Flatbed, not a bed tray. You can find them on Craigslist for cheap, anything for an 1980-1996 long bed will work. You usally see these on F-250/F-350 models since they can handle more weight.
If you're going to build a flatbed, make the entire floor surface flat, above the wheels. Use the space in front/behind the rear tire under the bed floor for storage boxes. Make stake pockets so you can have removeable bed sides. Make a headache rack integrated into the bed. Do yourself a favor and make it entirely out of steel.
I think you might have confused people with the term "Bed tray" because I know I was thinking something completely different.
I think the original poster is from Australia, or perhaps South America. Why the confusion in terminology.
His truck pictured is a right hand drive model.
Parts over there are harder to get.
Otherwise I'd tell him to just find a used 8' (TUB) bed and replace it.
1980-1996 will bolt on and work, if you could find someone to ship you one, although the bodylines are slightly different 1987-up.. Having a used bed shipped to OZ is probably cost prohibitive though...
The flatbeds for the 1973-1979's will work too as the wheelbase is the same. Some modifications may be required but nothing too serious.
sorry for the confusion.
81-F-150-Explorer is right, im from Australia.
parts are rare to come by here, and very expensive.
i will try my best at restoring the tub thats on there now, but she's not looking so great!
a tub liner would be great, but shipping from the states is way too pricey.
