superchip question
superchip question
id like to get a superchip for my 2007 f150 4.6. i probably would have already gotten it if i didnt have this one question. will it mess up anything in the transmission and what not? from what ive heard, its only if you dramatically increase horsepower and torque where you should expect to get damage. i wouldnt think 20 horsepower and 30 torque would be enough to damage anything.
thanks
thanks
This question comes up a lot.
The "canned" programs probably won't hurt the trans. But the changes you as the user can alter quite possibly will.
About 1.5 months ago I got a SCT handheld with custom tunes built from a forum sponsor. The tunes are great. They are safe, done by a professional, and come with his full support if you need to make changes. For instance, when my first tune was built, the 4th gear entrance was rather low for my tastes making the engine lug somewhat. I emailed my request in, and within 5 hours I had a revised tune emailed back to me. That's quick!
I highly suggest 5 Star Tuning:
5 Star Tuning | Custom Dynomemeter Chassis Tuning Products and Services
Owner is Mike Butler
Contact Mike and ask him his opinion. For right around $400, it's hard to beat. He's tuned a wide variety of trucks and RV's for members of this, and other forums.
Here's my thread about Mike's work:

The other tuner option is Power Hungry Performance (PHP):
Power Hungry Performance - Feed your hunger for POWER!
They are slightly more expensive (~$500) and they have a great product. Their service is great, but their lead time is much longer than Mike's
I think you owe it to yourself, and most importantly your truck, to stay away from the canned tunes, and look into custom tunes. You'll end up happier in the long run.
