I thought it had to do with the rmp ranges gas versus diesel motors operate in. I would think the diesel 5 speed has a closer gear ratio than gas 5 speed.

I may also be stupid and wrong.

I think it's a different bolt pattern between the gas and diesel transmissions. Again, that's just from reading, and someone who knows more will hopefully confirm or deny this shortly.

Your 93 will have everything you need except the PCM, but you can get yours reflashed.

Just curious but could you use a zf6? Do they bolt to the t case? Different length? Would be neat to have a 6 speed in obs!!

I read that ZF 6 speeds take far more modification to work on an OBS than the ZF 5 speed that came with them. You also don't gain a whole lot, apparently.

The 6 requires either modifications to the trans tunnel and maybe firewall (the zf5 is a tight fit) or I believe a body lift.

The zf-6 and zf-5 have the same over-all ratio (1st to OD). The only two differences are 450 ft-lbs (rated) for the 5 and 600 to 650 for the 6. And, the zf-6 has a gear between the 1 and 2 of the zf-5.

As a result, most will tell you the swap to the 6-spd isn't worth it.

Ok sweet plgebbia, i am going to start the removal of the tranny soon then. I plan on tearing it down just to make sure everything is ok. Where could i get the PCM flashed? Also is it the box on the drivers side inner fender?

DP tuner can flash the pcm. Some ford dealers can too I think.

Cruise control, talk to Redman, I think he figured it out.

The pcm is behind the e-brake, you can see it by removing the ebrake, you remove it out under the hood. The box on the drivers side inner fender is the idm.

I'm going to go ahead and bring this thread back to life.

Has anyone done a write-up on an automatic to manual transmission swap? If everything happens like it's supposed to, I'll be doing mine soon. I'm quite sure that I'm going to need tons of help, since I've never done anything like this before.
