I'm putting the front D44 axle back together again and wanted to be sure that the right sequence for installation onto the steering knuckle/axle shaft is brake caliper bracket, followed by dust shield, followed by spindle, before the
hub/rotor is installed.
This was a pic I took at disassembly and I have no reason to believe this axle was ever taken apart. But the diagram I see in the shop manual looks a bit different.
It looks right to me, im no expert I know lots of people leave the dust shields off. They seem to collect lots of debris. I just got done doing the same thing I was gonna order new shields and the guys at broncograveyard said they all leave them off.
I was pretty sure I was ok but sometimes another set of eyes is good. I know that a lot of people leave them off, in my case I will probably go ahead and install them, they never seemed to hurt anything.
