Vent window security lock

Hey all bought a set of these

http://broncograveyard.com/bronco/i-24315-vent-window-locks.html

How the F are these supposed to work. There's no way these are going over the glass with the rubber pads without braking.

I used those for a long time, until I finally got around to replacing my broken vent window latch. It sounds like you have the right idea. The rubber pads have to fold over the edge of the glass into a C-shape, then the hooked end of the lock slides over the pad. The pad acts as a spacer to hold the lock in place.

You're right though, the rubber does break. I don't remember it breaking as soon as I installed it, though. I think I had them on there for a few months before the rubber finally broke, after being out in the weather for a while. However, even after the pad broke, they still held in place fine.

To make it look nicer, though, you could cut the pad up into two small pieces, the size of the lock, and put a piece on each side of the glass. I would imagine that was the intent; I just didn't do it that way because I didn't care how it looked.

Pretty cool that we can get replacements for the window lock. I never knew we could!

Last time I looked at my current window lock, it was all busted up and it almost seemed to be plastic on one side and metal on the other...

Gotta get mine fixed too!

I cannot even get it to go on the glass with the pads. I really don't think these are going to work. I have brand new vent window seals in and that pushes the window out a little too. I'm afraid I'm going to break the glass trying to fit the hook side over the glass. Let alone getting that bar passed the vent frame.

You're saying that the total width of the glass, plus a section of pad on each side, is too wide for the lock? Something isn't right here.

I know this is an old thread, but I am having the exact same issue. The rubber is way too thick to fit over the vent windows on my 77. They are original vent windows. I might go digging for thinner rubber to slip it over, but it seems a very odd problem to have for a product sold ready to use on these trucks...

I don't use mine for this reason and the probably silly concern that they distort the seal enough to maybe leak water into the cab. Says the guy that is completely ignoring the failed windshield seal and the moss growing in the gap in the rear slider...

Mine did fit fine and I have them stashed in the glove box in case I have to park somewhere questionable with stuff visible in the cab.

I wonder if the wind noise would change if the slider/lock was placed at a different place on the vent window. Have either of you tried alternate locations?

I ask because I'm tempted to order these vent locks for my truck but wind noise sounds like a bit of a pain if I'm being honest.

You might as well put a KEEP OUT sign in the window. most thieves these days don't know what a wing window is or how it works.

Besides that glass isn't that hard to break if they really want in.

I’ll 2nd what 440sixpack said. Most people don’t know how the wing windows work to begin with. Also as he said....if they really want to get in they will.

Guys always asked me when I had my 70 Challenger convertible. “Aren’t you going to lock the doors?” I said, “Why? Nothing to steal other than the car and if they really want in all they have to do is stick a knife thru the top! If they want the factory AM 8 track radio that bad....just let them get in and take it!”

I'm getting older and altho I say more confused, others say not much has changed . I've locked the keys in the truck twice in the last year. A butter knife and 2 seconds is all it takes to get back in. If I put the locks back on, I'll need a spare key or an assistant.
