OK... back from the dealer and here is what the work order says: "PERFORM POWER BALANCE TEST CYLINDER 8 LOW PERFORM MANUAL COMPRESSION TEST 390 PSI REMOVE AND REPLACE #8 INJECTOR ROAD TEST OK"
Other than a bit smoother idle, I cant really tell a difference. I filled her upo to the top, added 16 ounces of Power Service Cetane booster and will run it to find the MPG now.
BTW, I have a Bank's tuner chip in it now... im getting the vibe I should rip it out and go DP... any feedback?
When I do a diagnostic, I would certainly want to take Banks stuff off. I don't want it interfering with the diagnosis. If I had to bring my truck in for some scanning work, No way would I leave my DP-Tuner chip on. Otherwise, the reading might be corrupt and they would interpret it any which way.
As far as your Banks chip goes, I'd drop any "One size fits all" for a more custom tune.
Ok, i dont know if the injector issue is fixed yet, but I only drove 23 miles and the needle is already moving off full... doesnt look good. My 2006 6.0L stays on F for 125 mile or more...
Anyway, I spoke with Clay over at Riff Raff today and I have a S&B Cold Air Intake on the way along with some DP Tunes.... so since I had some time to kill i pulled out the OEM Filter set up and guess what I found.... Looking in at the compressor wheel through the intake tube I can see small pieces missing from the outer edges of the fins, not on all but at least 4 and a couple more are on there way. This cant be good can it? I dont know the history, but the engine has 142k miles and judging by the polish on the leading edges of the compressor wheel, doesnt look as if the filter was cleaned as often as it should have been...
Question, is this turbo bad or should I just replace the compressor wheel? Does this give me the reason to buy the GTP38 from Clay? I dont have money to burn, but like I have been posting, I insist on reliability.
I would say that your 'injector issue' isn't fixed because you never had an issue to begin with. On the bright side, at least you know the compression on #8 is ok so it appears that you do not have a dusting issue that is affecting compression. If the turbo shaft is solid with no in and out play then you can probably get away with just replacing the wheel. Someone here may have one to sell if you ask around. I suspect a bad turbo would have a negative effect on mileage. You should get over 100 miles on the odometer before you see the needle move.
Thanks Greg!! On of the other funny things this truck does over my previous 2003 7.3 is when it shifts or comes off a load it sounds like the waste gate is dumping but does it like it is "bumping" and the boost gauge bounces...
Im not sure if this is a waste gate issue (I have a Banks on it now) or if I am looking at something else.... I have a feeling all my problems are going to come down to something quite stupid...
