recently got a runnin 351w wana toss it in ma 91 f150 which currently has a 302 is there any things i may have to watch out ofr or any extra tips or info before i start this project its ma daily driver she cant be out of commission too long thanks
what did the 351w come out of? is it a complete efi motor from upper intake to oil pan? what tranny do you have in the F150. the swap itself isnt bad depending on what you have to start with.
ma truck is a 91 f150 short bed reg cab with a stock 302 and the aod auto tranny the 351 came out of an 89 f250 with the same aod trany motor is complete and runs good
the AOD was never placed behind the 5.8 in a truck from the factory just so you know.
if you have the complete motor, y pipe and a flexplate from an 88 ford crownvictoria running the 5.8/AOD you will be in business. you will also need a 5.8/C6 computer from any 88-91 bronco/f150/F250/F350.
DO not use the flexplate that is currently on that 5.8 it will be the wrong one and will cause your AOD to fail. also are you 100% sure your tranny is an AOD and not the E4OD. there is a huge difference and will be important to know so this swap is successful.
best way to tell if you have the E4OD is your overdrive button either on the dash or on the end of the tranny shifter.
Ma truck has the same push button on the dash as the donor truck I was told it was called an AODi also got the wirin harness from said truck an the computerbox as well .........I was plannin on runnin through an doin a. Complete gasket kit and new alt. Waterpump and compressor am I good to go or was I led astray? The last swap I did was ages ago an it was a simple 302-302 swap due to a cracked block thanks for the info also its greatly appreciated 5632196897 if ya have any tips or helpful hints please feel free to give me a call or txt
Push button on the dash means an E4OD trans, the AOD was all mechanical so you had to shift the lever to deactivate overdrive and as already stated it was never installed in anything bigger than an F150 so your donor couldn't have one.
You don't need or want any of the wiring from the donor, just the EEC control box and the complete 5.8 motor. The motor will bolt in where the 5.0 was and connect to the existing engine wiring, just swap out the computers, and you will have to widen the exhaust Y pipe about an inch since the 5.8 block is physically wider and taller.
