so i busted the steering box mudding in my truck a few weeks ago. is there any thread on how to get it off my tuck is pretty dirty right now so i cant see where all the bolts are and everything so i just figured id ask if there are something i should know before i try tomorrow.
It is pretty straight forward, you will have to remove the 2 hoses for the power steering, one bolt that holds the rag joint onto the steering sector, one tie rod to the pitman arm, and finally the three bolts that hold the box to the frame. I find that is the easiest to remove the tire and work threw the tire well.
nothin really to specific maybe just some random pictures of things for future lookers that search it up cause i did and couldnt find anything if i do mine tomorrow ill try and get some also
I did the same thing with mine, took it wheeling once and steering went bad. Learned my lesson, never done it since. (Hardcore wheeling) I still go in mud and stuff when needed just now I don't pretend im a jeep or yota and not go through rough deep trails haha save that for them
haha yeah the fun was worth the breakage for me, i would do it again ill just let my buddies test how the deep the hole is in their trucks before i try it in mine this time
Tie rod puller or a hammer if you are good with one. Just talking from experience, don't try to take the pitman arm off with the box on the truck. It will be much easier with it on the work bench.
If you don't have a pickle fork, hit the end of the pitman arm, as if you were trying to drive the arm towards the rear of the truck. 3 or 4 blows with a 2lb. hammer should do it. The shock of hitting the pitman arm will loosen the tapered tie rod end.
