finished putting the axle seals in my front diff tonight and am putting everything back together tomorrow and was wondering what the torque specs are for the wheel bearing locknuts, and if there were any others i should be aware of. i have the d44 high pinion 3/4 ton hd front axle (77 f250 6.6L) my hanes manual got soaked in the rain and got shredded up but its kinda junk anyways, dosent cover much. thanks for the info
Well, I did mine per specification and was absolutely sure it would be way off, then did the other side german style. Make your wager on which one is too loose today...
The first torque spec seats the bearing tight enough to squish the grease outta the way and backing it off the 90 degrees seemed too tight still, but it is perfect.
Not sure what your talking about? The outer race for the inner bearing?
And I kinda like them to be a little tight. As tight as I can get before it starts to not roll smooth, and you can start to feel every roller hit something. Then back it off just a touch. Anyone else think this is ok??? I've only really got like 4-5 years of experience as a mechanic. But I hope I'm on the right track!
