motor stuck.. maybe bent rod?

hey everyone i have a 1994 7.3 with 200k on it. it always ran great, always changed the oil.. no smoke etc.

every once in a while it would start real rough and smoke real bad until it would smooth out. most times it started normal no smoke and ran smooth

today, i went to start it.. it fired right up and stopped short in a fraction of a second like a cylinder was filled with diesel. now the motor is locked up and wont spin either direction.

my questions.. do injectors sometimes leak and drain the pump down into a cylinder?

if a cylinder is filled with diesel and another cylinder fires.. does it bend a rod? it sure seems like it did

thanks

I'd pull all the glowplugs and turn it over by hand to see if any cylinder is filled with coolant. Cavitation is possible and all it takes is for the piston to stop at the botom of the stroke one time for the cylinder to fill up with coolant.

if it ran and hydrolocked it is possible that you could have bent a rod but usually if it hydros after sitting, it wont even crank, you may have lost a head gasket.

could have a broken piston or a dropped valve also.

The '89 in the signature dropped a valve and locked up. Had to change the one head. We put 40K + on it since then.

Hood seal........

rain water got in my air filter!! dammitt!!
This is a common problem especially in the rainy areas.........

You can get an updated hood seal.......

Part numbers for Hood to Cowl gasket

1980-1986 is part number E5TZ1502824A

1987-1996 is part number E7TZ1502824A

Also make sure you have the washer with the rubber on one side (down) on the intake cover hold down bolt.

thanks for the info.. i cant believe this doesnt happen to so many more people... crazy. that rubber seal on the air filter is kind or worn out. over the years ive always seen water sitting on the air filter lid and didnt think anything of it

i have this turbo engine that im swaping my injection pump and new injectors to along with all of my brackets. hope to have it running soon. it has a hypermax turbo
