Hi Guys,I know this has been beaten to death, but bear with me here....
Today,I helped a lady at work with her Silverado. She had some codes that needed to be read. That was successful, but after popping the hood,I noticed no mechanical fan,and two electric ones. She had a V-6,and I swear I could have jumped in the engine compartment and stood up...Im relatively sure this is NOT OEM.Her husband is deployed somewhere overseas,so I didnt even bother to inquire.
Now....with that being said,I have an 07 F-150XL LWB,Automatic.It has the 4.2 which I love.
Is there ANY good reason to remove the fan, shroud, and install an electric setup?
Also,IF there is a definate advantage to do this, where would I get the setup.I want it to look good, professional, and operational.
My baby is still under powertrain warranty,so IF I did this, how would it effect the warranty?Need to know advantages/dis-advantges.....
Thanks for replys!
It's a very simple mod to do, all you need is two fans (preferred) and one or two temperature controls. All of these can be bought at most auto part stores for under 160 bucks. Best way to do this is to mount the fans in front of the radiator and set each fan to kick on a different temperature, that way if one fails, the other will kick in as a backup.
Pros/Cons: Well, they keep the motor good and cool, supposedly free up some power (although I can't tell by my "@ss Dyno", I've got a good amount of other stuff done though). It also frees up a ton of room in the bay, if you remove the clutch fan(some folks just add e-fans and keep the old clutch fan) I've heard water is not your friend, but I've been mudding with them and had them caked in the stuff, been through plenty of storms, and of course car washes, no issues at all
I would be really interested in some pics.I am VERY picky about my truck, but this looks like something I would like to do.No rush.I have to rebuild my Grand sons A/C system in his Cavalier within the next couple of weeks,so my "Garage time" will be dedicated to that. Thanks bro!
I will take pics in the soon as the sun shows up this morning, though I don't know how much y'all will see haha, they're hide in front of the radiator nicely, but I will do my best
