FE 390 conversion re: timing chain help
So i'm converting my early 70s 360 to a 390. I installed a C3AE-E (1963) 390 crankshaft. The base/lip of the crank snout looks smaller than the 360 crank. I have a Cloyes 3012k timing chain. According to Cloyes, that timing set should fit on a 63 Ford with a 390. However, that same timing set on Summittracing says it won't fit. Argh! When I look at the crank snout with the timing gear on, it looks like the woodruff key only fills half way. comments please!
Are 63 cranks that different for later castings?
