I used to drive one of those, a very, very long time ago. The piece shown in the pictures is the back of the tractor, with the cab above the drive wheels. If you look closely you can see the doors that would open forward and the steering wheel. The disc implement is on the back of the tractor.

The front of the tractor would have had the engine, fuel tank above it as I recall and the front wheels. It appears the front was separated from the rear, so unless the tank was ruptured and if it landed mostly right side up I could see the motor continuing to run. They did not have any sort of electronic fuel control. You shut off the motor by pulling out a control **** that manually shut off the fuel flow.

How is that possible when it was ripped from its fuel source?

You can see the blur of the flywheel spinning in this shot:

Hhhmmm, it may have run for a while, but look at the gear behind the flywheel and the fan. No run'em in picture.

On edit...maybe not the gear, looks like that shaft is broken. But I think I see the belt on whatever pump or gizmo is hanging out there, and you can clearly see the fan--no blur.

Lucky driver--I would have expected the back half to go tail over tea kettle after a hit like that. "Hit 'em just right..." as the old man used to say.

Tractors are designed to "split" right there to change the clutch. Just not quite that quickly.
