egr delete pre-install

hi!
my 04' f350 6.0 has been puking coolant for awile now and a week ago i
decided to park it. I just ordered an egr delete from rcd... i would like
to go through the truck, but money is scarce, so this is only a temp fix...
150 bucks!

Truck has 72k miles and i would like to get alot more outa my baby!
I have spent the last 2 days reading through the forums before i post this.
some smart folks here, so its kinda intimidating!

It seems the oil coolers getting slowly obstructed, eventually cause the
problems in the egr coolers, which can become obstructed also...
So... i wanna do a really good super coolant flush, probably get a new
thermostat also. btw, my heater quit blowing heat.... but i havent
had time to investigate and hoping the flush and new therm will fix...

My question is if theres anyway i can do a more thorough flush?
especially to the oil cooler w/o removal?
I plan on monitering my engine temps more diligently after this
round of work.
also, dont i need to remove the manifold to do this and therefor,
a new manifold gasket?
Then, and mostly debated, I was gonna leave the egr valve, but wont there
be a pressure problem or something now that theres no pressured
exhaust flowing to it? I am running a sct x3 in economy tune, but im
still not sure hows its gonna aid me in the egr delete?
any help is much much greatly appreciated! thanks!

I'm not sure if you are replacing the oil cooler with your egr delete. if not, you need to. from what i understand, the oil cooler clogs first which eventually destroys the egr cooler.

someone else please let me know if i'm wrong.

I plan on monitering my engine temps more diligently after this
round of work. You are able to flush the system well. Since you are removing the t/stat to change it, take it out before the flush and do the flush then (reinstall the housing obviously)....that way the cold water used to flush, will not stop at the closed t/stat. See if you can replace the oil cooler as well or at a minimum install a coolant filter. Flushes get costly because distilled water is used. To be honest with you since I installed my coolant filter a few years ago, I just dump the old cooland, get as much as I can out and refill with 50/50 distilled/gold. To do a TRUE flush it needs to be done with a thermostatically controlled machine.
also, dont i need to remove the manifold to do this and therefor,
a new manifold gasket? yes you do and some people advocate reusing the old gasket, but it has 70k+ so I'd spend the extra 20.00 and replace them.
Then, and mostly debated, I was gonna leave the egr valve, but wont there
be a pressure problem or something now that theres no pressured
exhaust flowing to it? The EGR valve should remain in place and plugged in so the cooling mechanical fan works properly and no there should not be an issue with the valve..... the SCTX3 allows you to turn off teh EGR CEL if you get one.....I am running a sct x3 in economy tune, but im
still not sure hows its gonna aid me in the egr delete?

If your vehicle is puking for no reason, or under load or tunes there is a pretty good chance you have underlying problems and you are merely putting a bandaid on a big wound.

ahhh yes, clarification!
i like the red marker effect also,
just like old times!

heater blows fine, just no heat...

Im gonna get a eom therm, gaskets, flush stuff and rad fluid..
Im trying to do minimum work for now and will
proceed to oil cooler if needed(hoping flush will prolong life)

The truck runs great 1st of all...
Im figuring the egr cooler is creating to much pressure and
making system puke??
It pukes more the harder i drive it..
I pull a dump trailer a lot, poor truck works its *** off...

Im gonna perform the flush in the same procedure found in
fte help forum.
thought i saw an oil cooler being slightly dissembled while
remaining in the truck.... Ive seen sooo much lately tho!
thanks

when mine originally lost power, it came with puking too. EGR was part of the problem. Other was head gaskets, according to the shop.

wulfman you have an excellent point dude.
it almost gotta be the oil cooler 1st,
causing probs to the egr cooler subsequently..

so, I called the local ford parts and gave him
the part # and told him the story.
(because i need it by the weekend)
he says " i'll give it to ya @ cost cuz i know
about all the probs u guys are having"

Purdy classy move if you ask me!
just when im about to write ford off completely,
this dude comes along and eases the blow...
Its not much, but point for ford.
