Im thinking about doing this within the next couple of months and I have a few areas of concern. I wanna keep the factory short block. What are stock pistons capible of? Since im going carb'd I think ill go with aftermarket heads. Trickflow or Edelbrock. Then how to use the factory fuel pumps? Fuel pressure regulator? Id really like to keep this build under $3500 bucks. Anyone with advice??
just get that adapter on the efi intake from pricemotorsports.com for the carb, plug up injector holes and get early 80s dist,,thats it i guess,,if you have a c6 its easy if its e4od u have to do a bit more
I wanna also make some power with this thing. IMO using the adapter would probably lose power from the stock EFI setup. I wanna go with the trick flow heads so i kinda wanna take it from there. Finding a good set of early heads around here is difficult. My big thing is I really don't want to venture far from the stock short block.

So just buy non EFI heads, then buy a performance manifold and carb and change the cam while you are at it. This isn't rocket science, it is retro-fitting and anyone that can do this shouldn't have to ask.
The stock pistons are fine for what u want. One of the best intakes is Weiand. New cam would be nice. Get a 80's dist. New heads an you will be good to go.
Thats good to know. Bear45/70 your right by saying bolting up everything is easy. Thats not really my concern. But the fuel system is where the difficulty will start. Thats my area of concern.

Use the EFI fuel pumps and use a pressure regulator, like a Holley unit to lower it to what the carb can handle. Get the bypass type so the electric pump does not get hot.
Why some people would want to to from EFI to carb is just beyond me. Kinda like going from Windows 7 to DOS 1.12...just cause they're scared to learn Windows 7. Makes no sense to me.
Going carb'd is the easiest way you can go with aftermaket heads. I really dont wanna mess with a MAF swap, just rather go old school and pull some power out of the old big block.
I guess i can see that. Thought you were one of those guys that were scared of efi and just wanted to blindly revert back to carb "just cause it's better"
