I hear F450s are running 4:88 gears. Is this true?
Is anybody running 4:88s on their F350?
I pull 18K pounds and the truck is a dog from a stand still. Most tractor trailers beat me off the line. I run 4:10 and think 4:88 will work better. I don't care for top end speed or fuel milage as long as it is not too bad.
I know you said you weren't all that worried about it, but your top end speed would be reduced by going to 4.88s as well as MPG if you push that top end speed quite a bit. I run 4.30s haul ~16k extremely often, particularly this time of year which is why I'm not on here as much as I am during the fall and winter months.
Also I wouldn't be running tunes on a 4.88 geared truck. Way to easy to push the upper limites of the truck with tunes.
4.30s would help you quite a bit of 4.10s. 4.88s is too much of a jump (in my opinion). Also having 4.30s helps keep everything the way you were used to it as far as basic driving goes, speed on the interstate, mpg etc.
