Ok, finally found a 400 FMX for my Australian Falcon (yep, I'm in the Good ol USA). Anyway, I have a set of 302C closed chamber 2V heads, a Holley Street dominator, Pertronix II ignition, Aussie Pacemaker Tri-Y headers and a 2.5 inch exhaust. Now I plan to run this thing in a 3300lb car with a wide ratio toploader (2.78:1 first), 3.00 rear gears, and a planned 6250 redline. My qestions are: 1) What are some good hydro cams that will support A/C, P/S, P/B, and daily driving? 2) What carb should I run? 750 Edelbrock? 650 Edelbrock AVS? Street Demon? Holley Avenger 670? Holley Avenger 770? any help would be greatly appreciated.
i'm no expert but i like Comp Cams High Energy series. you may want to go to the magnum series if your displacement goes upwards of 400.those aussie heads are going to shoot the compression ratio through the roof! i did a little calculating, with 62cc chambers, 4.030" bore, 4" stroke, .040" headgasket, 4.1" gasket bore, .010" deck clearance to keep the quench effect of the heads, you are going to need 22cc reverse dome pistons to get down to 9.82:1. 30cc's gets you down to low 9's. flat-tops with 5cc reliefs put you almost 12:1! just curious what are your plans for the bottom end and why the aussie squeeze factor? clevo 4V's would flow that big stroke real nice while the aussie 2V's will choke it's potential...
I'm not worried about the Aussie heads. The factory chambers are along the lines of 58cc, I'm opening these up to 65cc to unshroud the valves. The valves are cut down stainless steel that measure 2.125/1.7. These have not been ported yet but I should be able to get 250 on the intake side, that'll support the 6250 redline.....this is a street motor. Also, the heads don't need to be too radical as I'm stuck with the Tri-Y headers for at least a year or 2.....it'll set me back $800+ to get a set of 4V sized 4-1 headers shipped from Oz to the US. Bottom end will be a balanced stock assembly and I'll possibly use 351c pistons on a bushed rod.
while i have not run this exactly, but close. its going in my 400's. crower says max peak hp is 6k rpm. now toss in the crane roller rocker conversion kit, and rhoades lifters. should be nice. dd2k says around 500hp and tq.
500 hp/trq? That'd be nice and if dd2k says that then I should be meeting my goal of 425hp. I was considering the Rhodes plus I'm using Harland Sharp rockers with screw in studs.
I see you're in Jax'ville. I'm over in Navarre, between FTB and Pensacola.
