Check the basics STUPID!!
I just spent the last week chasing an intermittant low power, high HPOP duty cycle, high EGT nightmare. towing down the road suddenly everything would go to h#ll.
I've changed CPS, injector orings, had the valve covers off twice on the side of the road. i was at a loss. so much so that Cheryl and I discussed getting a new truck.
Bottom line is for 1000 miles of a 1200 mile trip my truck has been poo. Last night we limped into an RV park pulling our hair out.
I'm on the phone with Bob Riley and Bill Cohron. Neither of them can figure it out. WHY WHY WHY is it acting this way!!!! Clay ask me "hows you fuel pressure? Bob ask me hows your fuel pressure?
Fine says I
Suddenly the realization comes on I've only assumed that I have good fuel pressure. Filters not that old and the underhood guage says 65 psi at idle.
I do have a guage I can hook up and watch as I drive. hook it up STUPID.
60 psi at idle, touch the throttle and BAM and IT DROPS TO ZERO! and stays there until its back at idle for 2-3 minutes.
Change the blasted fuel filter, which I had in the tool box by the way, and suddenly I get 12 more lbs of boost, my EGTS drop, I've got my truck BACK.
My HPOP figures are now normal again. I guess having you HPOP trying to compress air with cause high duty cycle.
Bottom line............ Basics...... Basics........ Basics.... and don't assume
$200 dollars, 2 xtra nights on the road and 2 days late for new work project because I assumed.
Thanks everyone for you help, its my fault we didn't find it earlier, cause you could only work with the info I gave you.
I submit on bended knee for the a$$ whoopin that I have coming.

Seriously, I'm getting ready to order an overhead gauge pod and some more gauges from Clay. I'm pretty sure a fuel pressure gauge will be one of them.

Can you put the old filter back in? I am looking for another truck and I figure that I can buy it from you cheaper if it is not running very well?

Once again it takes Family support to tell us what we already know, but wish to over look to find a bigger 'cause'.
Reps to 'The Family'......
Glad you got your truck 'back' and are on the road again.

I have almost decided that a fuel PSI gauge on a PSD is a must. My 96 was having some odd issues, so I bought a tire pressure gauge one day to check fuel PSI and it was 108psi. Never did get a chance to sort the issue out before the truck got totaled last month...
glad you found and fixed the problem Barney!

I bet you are going to find a permanent home for that in cab gauge now.

Thanks for the update. I have a fuel pressure gauge on my truck but it's on the pre-filter port (just because it was easy to get to and I was lazy). If the filters can get that clogged, I should probably relocate it to the post filter port on the housing so I can see when my filter is getting dirty. Adding it to my PSD To Do list now....
