weight distribution hitch

I have a 2002 explorer xls 4.0 v6 with a 3.55 rearend and was going to buy a camper that weighed 3080 my to capacity as it is know is 3500 lbs but i have been told that if i put a weight distribution hitch on i can tow up to 5000 lbs is this true or what

A weight distribruting hitch does not increase the towing capacity of the tow vehicle.
