jumpy gauge

jumpy gauge

oil gauge started jumping after first use of high milage oil whats up 1997 F 150 4.6 360778 miles had since new never had problems with it. new fuel pump and windshield is all fromm new

if it's a 2011 did they switch to a digital gauge, i believe from a past post the the 2010's have an analog signal that the computer sends to the gauge and it is only to show positive oil press, not actual oil press.

Since at least 97, they are dummy gauges. If there is enough pressure to keep the light off (about 7psi), then the gauge will read somewhere between 1/2 and 3/4 on the gauge. Too many idiots used to complain about the gauges fluctuating so they did this keep people from going to the service dept for no reason.

did they not realize that the pressure increases with rpm's?

Moved to correct forum.

Probably either the sending unit or the voltage regulator in the cluster.
