The alt is fairly new. It was put on before I bought the truck. I checked at the batteries with my meter. I have 12.69 while running. I checked at the alt and got the same. Is there anything else I need to check before spending another 200$?
If you're reading low voltage at the alternator post and the light is on and all your connections are good, you can pretty well bet the alternator is bad. Have you had it tested? I recently gave $112.35 for a rebuilt Motorcraft unit. $200 seems awfully high to me.

That's the price advance gave me.I agree I don't like the price either
dont know if this killed my alt or not but i went to look at a 91 f350 for my pops. the truck has been sitting for a year or so. i had a new battery in my shed so i brought it and put it in the truck. i know one batt isnt enough but better than jumper cables on both. i had cables on one with the new battery in the truck. i got it to spin over a few times. i left and drove about 30 minutes home and the battery light came on the next time i started the truck.
Not sure on the jumping deal but with my truck with year and a half old batteries with a newly rebuilt Alt. with my lights all on I don't see below 13.7 volts, with all the running lights and toys on too. I'm at 14.2-4 volts without lights on just cruising. Before you go swapping out that alt. look for a local rebuilder around, it really pays, seriously.
My battery light came on this winter and the speedo went dead too. But when I tested it and gave it a little throttle the output went up to 17.5!!!! Turned out the regulator went on the alt. Giver a rev next time you test it and see what it says.

Ill try that. I had that happen in a suburban. It started pushing 19 volts and boiled a pair of red tops
