Here's anoter question. I had my first free oil change done at my dealer last night at 1100 miles. There price for oil changes are $30.58 out the door with every 5th free. They use the Motorcraft 5w-30 semisynthetic. I usually do all my own oil changes. At this price should I even bother? Normally I use Amsoil. But at this price I could have my changes done more often and still be money ahead? What to do?
That's a good deal and probably worth doing. The main reason I do my own is the time savings. I'm done in 30 min and don't have to drive to the dealer and sit. Plus it gives me a reason to crawl around underneath and see what I can break.
I do my own oil changes. I prefer to know that it is done right and exactly what is being put in my truck or cars. I save my receipts to prove I purchased the oil. I will probably stick with the M/C oil and filter for now until I get some miles on it and do a used oil analysis (UOA). You can learn a lot from UOAs and pick your oil based on real data.
For example, we have been doing UOAs on the GT500s running M/C 5W-50. Based on these reports many of us have moved away from the M/C oil because the UOA results have not been good.
