I've been kicking around getting another airplane. I love my Decathlon but I need to be able to carry 2 adults, and 3 children and some baggage. Looking for a partner or two to go in on a C-340 or BE-58. If I can't find anyone I will probably go with a A-36 or Saratoga.
The world looks a lot better when you are inverted!
I went down the twin path at one time. What I found out is that you aren't paying for two engines, it works out to about three! And my friends who had them, were all in the same boat. Between the extra maintenance costs and feeding 2 engines, my wife told me it would have been cheaper for me to have a cocaine habit
I downsized to the Mooney and have been really happy over the past 18 years. Works out to about 18 MPG and of course doing a straightline most of the time! Useful load was fine until my kids got big. Now I just borrow a twin when I need it.
At some point I would love to get a tail dragger. Sorry about the HIJACK!
Thats exactly why I wouldn't want to bite of a twin alone. Wouldn't be too thrilled with my 1st $20,000 annual.
If I could just sell 1 kid then I would have a lot more options!
I was fortunate that I sold before both engines were due for the overhauls. My annuals on the twin were running between $4k and $7k. Throw in the occassional prop overhaul and bad landing gear motor, I have seen a few annuals close to $10k. And that wasn't even counting the avionics maintenance!
Selling a kid crossed my mind a few times as well, especially now that one is in college
Good luck with the new ride. I got those fast little cars out of my system years ago. Just sold my HD Road King last year, and gave up riding for good after 48 years on 2 wheels. I could not bear the thought of giving up the 2011 diesel though. I will be turning 65 next month, but, when Im driving my F250 6.7 I feel like a kid in a hot rod again. Enjoy the Stang....Lew
I guess there won't be any more trailer pulls to read about in the future.
Never say never, there is still a lot of interest out there! We had a date picked out a few weeks ago, and we were going to announce it soon. I'll talk with the guys and see if we can still make it work.
Mike can probably rent a trailer, and I'd love to come out to check it out!
pretty cool man, I just sold an '07 GT in march, its was a REALLY fun car, I had it for about a year and a half and got bored with it. I know how do you say that, I never imagined I would it was my dream car. but what I found was that during the winters here in utah I never wanted to take the car out into the muckey snow and salt. plus it sucks in snowy weather. I just didn't end up driving it near as much as I thought I would.
the other thing is living at 5000 ft elevation really saps the HP out of the motor, I bet I was down close to 40 hp, around here a supercharger would really really have helped. but man that car could handle, the steering on it was unbelievable, the best I have ever felt, making the turn on a freeway on ramp at 70 mph sideways no big deal. the car just felt glued to the road, turns at 120 mph, no problem. had the car up to 145 one time and took it to the strip and made some drag passes at midnight drags. took the car over a mountain which was a winding road that was about 40 miles long, very little traffic. ummmm lets just put it like this on that day it was a race track not a road. window down and those flowmasters rumbling, stabbing the throttle on the down shifts, kicking it sideways when I had room to save it, that was a drive I will not forget.
the car was amazing, however my wife had a baby and we had to pay cash for it, so the mustang had some equity in it, so instead of making payments in the winter I sold it. ONE DAY what I really want is a GT 500 last I looked one could get a low mile 07-08 GT 500 for around 32 k. a pully change and it should be pumping 550 ish to the tires. now that is my dream car.
My first pickup was a 1953 Chevy 1/2 ton. I rescued it from a friends back yard in 1973. I have owned a truck ever since. I wouldn't be without one. But, I also remember the 1970 Boss 302 Mustang I owned. Wow! What a fun set of wheels that was. 4 speed, orange and black fastback, shutters on the rear window. Freakin awesome ride.
Unlike you, I sold my 'stang when my first born came along in 1980. Had to "grow up", I think is how she put it. Sigh... anyway. Yamaha 400YZ. Gone! Yamaha 650 street bike. Gone! 1978 F-250 4x4. Kept it for 21 years.
Cars and trucks come and go. Keep your memories and your dreams. They will last a life time. Do what you have to for your family and yourself. You'll be back in a truck. It's inevitable. It's in your blood.
Looks like a sweet ride Tom. I love the Stangs and Saleen puts out some nice body kits that look perfect in black.
Congrats on the second baby!

Renting a trailer is no big deal. I live near a place that rents all sorts of trailers cheap. Of course Tom will be bringing his Mustang this time.
