Fuel Filter light

I was driving home last night in the rain, prolly a 20 min trip and my fuel filter light came on. I checked the search and everyone seemed to experience a drop in power, mine didnt seem to be loosing power however. I do have a chip and I turned it up this morning and it didnt seem to be lacking, It did start harder than usual this morning. Any ideas? the fuel filter isnt that old and i just replaced the strainer in the front tank (which is the tank i use, the rear one is rotted)

filter light comes on when theres a restriction. your filter needs replacing. or theres a pinch in the pick up line. find the restriction solve your problem. the pickup screen on our trucks can get pretty nasty.

The sensor is just a switch. Unplug the wire going to it and the light should stay OFF. If it stays ON then that wire is shorting to ground somewhere. If everything is running OK then you may just have a bad sensor. At Ford they are kind of spendy but IH has them for about $25.

Here is a picture of the sensor, drivers side on the fuel filter canister ...

Though I can't speak to this particular design (we eliminated ours a while ago), pressure switches are notorious for having frequent failure rates (short lifetimes). Probably a good idea to verify adequate fuel pressure, under full load and acceptable pressure drop on the suction side. if they are good, the screen is cceptable and a pipe plug will let you buy a few extra gallons of fuel oil.

Have you drained the bowl yet?
X2 on the unplugging it. If you drain and change the fuel filter regularly you shouldn't need the reminder light, imo.
