Tailgate Lift Motor Mystery

Hello,

I have a 92 full size EB. The rear lift motor went bad. I know how to replace it. Its been done before. Here is the issue.

Purchased a new motor. Hooked up new leads. Jumper the latch switch connector. Turn key. Motor is a no go.

Disconnect the leads, put a meter on the leads coming from the key switch, turn the key and bang meter shows ~ 12v. Good. Put hot leads directly from battery to motor and it purrs, motor is good. Go back and connect the leads to motor. Turn key and nothing. Place meter on the connection; turn key, no reading from meter. Disconnect again. Put the meter on the leads, turn key and Bang 12v. Hook back up and nothing.

Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks,

Yep, 12 volts are useless if you have less than 10 amps. Take a resistance reading between the negative terminal at the switch and the actual frame attachment point. Bet you will find extremely high resistance from loose or corroded connection points.

Yep. The first place I would look would be the harness bend on the driver's end of the tailgate. I installed a butt connector in the break.

Found It

I took the advice and checked and cleaned the grounds and no difference. I finally started to trace upstream and found what I guess was a faulty connector. Performed some MASH like surgery and did a in the field by-pass and now the motor purrs like a kitten.... Next stop, replacing the glass. Thanks for the advice….
