I painted up the new rad, rad support and brackets today. I'm installing a new rad intended for an 83 f 150 in my 49. The rad will be installed in a different manner than intended. The rad is a cross through but I'm standing it on its side. I discussed this with a radiator manufacturer and he says it will work as effectively in this position as it would normally. I had the new rad in my parts bin for the last 25 years so I decided this was it's time. The truck it was originally intended for had a 360 in it so it should work good for the 351w. It is a F1 hub cap, lol, I only have one of them so I'm thinking that's what I'm going to do with it. The thing underneath is a margarine container, just to raise it up a little.
A coffee can should work under the hub cap to help make an appropriately spaced air puller.
I tried a coffee can between the carb and hubcap, the can is a little too big. But, I think that something can be fabbed up fairly easily to hold a filter. Only thing is , I don't want a hole in the hubcap so this will take some thinking.

You might consider fabbing an "X" with the nut at the intersection of the X and tack weld the 4 ends of the X under the hub cap. Then the whole cap would spin to screw it on..........just a thought.

That's a good idea Walston, and, I'm heading up to Napa to see if I can find a small diameter air filter and then I can design a contraption to contain that and attach the hupcap to it as a cover.
