Carb help please.

86 F-150 4.9L 4 speed 4X4/ I have the wonderful feedback system, and am trying to get it back to working order. I ran into a wiring issue today, looking at my carb in the front rightish corner there is what looks to be maybe idle mixture? something with 2 black wires coming out of it with a factory connector that has been melted to a blob. There are not connectors in the general area of it, however there are 4 wires in the harness going to the water temperature sending unit that have been cut and taped up. This was the only harness line that looked like it may have contained the wires going to whatever it is on my carb. I was wondering if anyone could look to see what color wires are going to this part on their carb??? Maybe once I clean all of the gunk off of my 4 loose connections I can see what color they are and match them up???? Thanks for the help fellas, You guys are the best!

I don't know exactly what that thin is yet?? Its on the drivers side very front of the Carb, it has a two prong connector going to it, the device looks like a motor of some sort??? The two wires going to it appear to be black, the ones that connect to it are the colts I need Thanksgiving again all.

If you tell me the color of the wires in question, with their tracer colors, (stripes hashes etc), I can look up the possibilities on where they might lead, or go to.

There are too many engine calibrations to just ask what is on someone else's engine, as it may be different to yours.

Hey, this is something I can actually help with. I also have an '86 300 with feedback system. Here are two helpful figures from the 86 EVTM. That thing with wires on the right side (facing) of the carb is the Feedback solenoid.

More info here.

You should see if the solenoid "clicks" when you put 12 volts across the 2 wires coming out of the carb. If it doesnt work it is time to give up on the whole computer controlled carb thing and move to an older DS2 system.

Thanks alot guys, yeah I would like to still k with the feedback stuff for now.
That is exactly the part, I am looking to find out what color your wires are going to it? I have some four extras coming out of the bunch going to my water temperature sensor, only seems likely this may be where they are hiding??? Thanks alot

According to my wiring diagram, the wires to the Feedback Solenoid should be Tan/Light Green and Red.

Ok i got it wired up, just not sure if it is backwards or not yet. I hooked it up both ways and left it with the smoother idle. The other way was surging really bad.
I had another question, I was looking around under there and found another vacuum line not connected. Looking at the front of the truck up at the top left side of the carb, there is a port that goes directly into the venturi of the carb, there is a line that goes nowhere hanging off of there?? I have my vapor canister line plugged into a line directly under the carb, which I assumed went into the intake, or do i have this backwards? Thanks for the help fellas.

Gravy,

Here is a link to a previous post where all the ports and components of the Carter YFA single barrel Feedback carburetor are shown with pictures and descriptions. Maybe it can help:

My guess is it's for the choke hot air tube assembly. Filtered air is directed into the exhaust manifold to be warmed up, then up to the choke assembly to help tell it "the engine is warmed up."
