Fog Lights
I've searched and come up with nothing, so I'm wondering if I just happen to be lucky twice in a row now.
The stock fog/driving lights on my '02 have the small metal projector things inside the lens that the bulb goes inside of. They look like they're galvanized steel and only held up by a small piece of metal on the bottom.
Well early on, shortly after I bought the vehicle, one of these metal things fell off inside the lens. It bounces around in there and I imagine it doesn't help the bulb out. At the time, I bought a new light because one of the pivot brackets for the light housing was broken. Now they are both good, so I really don't want to replace the whole light again just to fix the metal thing.
Rust or corrosion isn't an issue because the vehicle spent its previous life in Florida and inside the sealed light, they still look just fine (no deterioration).
I'm hoping I can fix the projector piece, but it got me wondering, is this an uncommon thing? Is this projector piece really necessary, or will it become annoying to other drivers now? I can't say anyone has flashed at me with the piece broken recently, and it is the left fog light.
Even though I've read some debates on the subject, I do have mine aimed down and use them all the time. Plus with it being an '02, they have the DRL feature where they run in automatic + fog during the day. I actually rely on the lights to help me see our wonderful Michigan potholes so I can avoid them, because it's hard to tell the difference between a new patch and a big pothole with just the headlights.
