hi fellas. i have a 1966 f100. i am building and installing a 351w board 30 over. i have a AOD. both motor and trans are out of a 88 f150 2wd. I am trying to find a carb that will work the best. I have access to and edelbrock carb. pn edl4106. its a 600 cfm carb. will that work for my engine and trans or what should i get. i found theres something about linkage for that carb.
During my first go around, I tried a 650 dp (double pumper) on my 351W. It seemed to do just fine even with the stock manifold but one big difference was I used the 66cc chamber heads off of a '66 289 in place of the 71cc heads from the original engine. This brought my compression ratio up to almost 13.5:1
I also had a C-4 auto behind it so I never realized the full benefit from a dp carb but if I remember correctly, you could go as high as a 750 with-out issues and only using slight mods to the engine. Several of my friends back then even used 850's and one friend had twin 650's without issue.
Of course we didn't have access to a dyno to check and see how much HP we were gaining or losing but the results were winning bracket races at the local strip. I guess we were'nt as concerned about thing back then too since gas was only $0.70 gal
would it be wise to buy new car and intake, as a combo kit? im on a budget and would prefer to not spend all my money on just the motor and trans. summit racing has a intake and carb combo kit for around $500. Or try to rebuild the carb and select an intake? the machine shop said to stay around 650 cfm. he told me that a 650cfm will work the best for the cam i picked out. i have an Aod trans, dose anyone know of any websites to help find the correct linkage, or a starting place.
Some guys like 600's, others like 650's, and I seemed to use alot of 750's vs on my motors. All will end up working about as well, but the tuning is key.
I would rebuild the carb you have as it would be less then $50 if you do it yourself. Or about $200 if you go to a pro shop. Plus you can set up the adjustments as you go.
Summit has kits for the AOD so all you have to do is talk to them.
Try CL for a cheap manifold. Or get a highrise dual plane.
