Leaking Ac refrigerant

I tried charging my ac, and found a nice leak dripping down from the bottom of my compressor.. not sure if its a busted line, or a bad o-ring. The problem is the ac compressor is located on bottom side of 5.4 motor.

How difficult is it to remove and service the compressor. i have a 05 EB expy.

Also i 4x4 pretty hard with it, is it easy to damage a line under there?

It is not too hard to get to under there. Clean the area of the leak. If you have to, use some brake clean. If it's only a little oil it should be okay until you can get it properly serviced. You need to be careful not to overcharge the system or you could cause yourself bigger problems.

There are EPA laws governing the release of refridgerant into the atmosphere, so I would recommend having your system's charge reclaimed by a pro prior to removing anything. The system will then need to be evacuated to a vacuum prior to recharging the system after the leak is repaired. Unless you have the proper tools, training, and equipment this is not a DIY project.

There are 164,480,000,000,000,000,000 (real number, not made up) ounces of air on Earth. He's releasing maybe 30 ounces of refrigerant. That's "0.00000000000000000001823929961089494163424124513 6187%" of the air on Earth that's being 'contaminated'. I'd say hotdog and beans night at the Jones's house does more damage to the environment than him releasing that refrigerant into the air.

Man, that's a lot of air. I wonder how much of it is hot, outside of Washington, that is.

It's people like you that caused the problems that were addressed by the Montreal Protocol in 1987. Licensed professionals care and follow guidelines. Educate yourself, because if you are suggesting that it's OK for everyone to release "maybe 30 ounces of refridgerant" you may to use your own math proficiency to estimate those "hotdogs and beans".

Lighten up a little. Much more Halon escapes from a gozillion sources every day and I beleive the greatest cause of Global Warming is just too many people creating too much methane gas. There are times when I think the worst thing that happened to planet Earth was Humans. There are just too damn many of 'em!

Some do, some don't. I have educated myself, that's why I can safely say that global warming is a myth, holes in the ozone from aerosol can are a myth, and R-12 or even R-134a released into the atmosphere will not destroy the environment. Most people have no comprehension as to the size of this planet and what it would actually take to really effect it.

You think so? Here's a little fact to put the world's population into perspective. Ever been to or at least seen pictures of New York City? Well if you were were to take the state of Texas and develop it with the same density as NYC, you could house the entire population of the world there. Got that? The entire population of the entire planet living working and existing in a space the size of Texas. Walking down the street would be no different than walking through NYC.

With that much crowding the streets would be knee deep in blood until there was a population reduction. People, for the most part, do not want to live quite so close to each other.

As "supporters" and "Postmasters" I would expect, regardless of your own personal opinions regarding ozone depletion, that at least you would not recommend illegal activity.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I hear the High School in Shelton Connecticut will be looking for a new Principal. It sounds like you'd be perfect for the job.

Isn't it an interesting coincidence that R-12 was banned right when Duponts patent expired. But here, we have this new freon with a new patent that will save the universe. Look, up in the sky. It's Dupont Man beating off the competition with a new patent.
