I have a 1973 460 out of a Lincoln matching D3VE heads,I want swap the heads out with some DOVE heads what kind of Horsepower would I gain from this. I know the stock HP for my 73 engine is about 218 hp with 340 tq.
None of the Dove heads flow any better then any other pair. The differences are in the chambers.
Dove-C 75cc D-chamber heads or high compression heads.
D2VE heads open chsamber around 100cc. Door stops or stock motors. Not suited for a decent performance build.
D3ve Large 95cc D chamber heads. Probily the best choice becouse they can be milled for a bit of compression, and a wide range of pistons for the street.
So I should stick with my D3ve heads and just have the machined a bit?, Where can I get my biggest HP gains without rebuilding my engine, I'm trying to get to above 300 hp from my measly 218 right now.
if you want to get over 300 hp then youll need a cam swap and some work done on your heads... something in the 220@.050 duration range for cam... if you want to leave your stock heads mostly alone youll need to keep the valve lift under .520... jmo
Thanks Darrin 1999, I this is what I want, I'm going to take off my existing heads a send them to a machine shop ,what exactly do I ask for? When I get the heads back I plan on putting on an Edlebrock performer Intake that will match my Edlebrock carb that I already have, get some nice headers with exaust and a cam like you mentioned should I get new lifters with my cam? I really appreciate any advice and knowledge that you can pass down.
