difference between 5.4 and 6.8 drivetrain?

Know of a local 5.4 Ex with a dead motor. Would a 5.4 Ex accept a v10 without much fuss? Is there much different about the 5.4 drivetrain? I have looked at a 5.4 and it didn't seem to strike me as much different other than missing a couple cylinders, but it was just a quick look.

If I could get it for next to nothing I may be tempted to start looking for a v10 or even a cummins if I'm really masochistic but don't want to find out "yeah you shouldn't have done that" after the fact.

thanks

I would post the question down in the v10 forum. You will get a faster response there and not just limited to x owners
