My issue is that I changed out the fuel filter in my '97 F-350 with a 7.3l Powerstroke the other day, pretty simple project as I've done it several times in the past, and now the truck won't start. I noticed that the glow plug light does not come one now either, as it did prior to changing out the fuel filter, and I am wondering if the two are related.

Any thoughts and suggestions are appreciated as I am tired of driving the wife's Focus. It's hard to get take the boat out with. Thanks.

I had the same principal happen when my fuel pump quit. It started running rough and smoked a little. I checked the fuel bowl to see if it was full. It was, but when I tried starting it again it wouldn't. See about opening your drain valve on your fuel bowl and turning the key on. I THINK fuel SHOULD come out. Now, mine is a 2001, not a '97, so it may not work that way. Try that and see what happens. I just know thats what led me to find the fuel pump failure.

Welcome to FTE. As mentioned we do have a 94 - 97 7.3 diesel section located further down the main forum listing.

If memory serves me correct, I believe it's fuse #22 (30 amp) that you will find blown if you look. There is an electrical plug on the back side of your fuel filter bowl. Unplug that connector, replace the fuse and try to start.

Sounds like you blew the fuel bowl heater. The glow plug light was the hint. Leave the connector unplugged and you'll be fine to drive around. Do some reading down in the 7.3 section and then you can decide if it's even worth fixing or just leaving it unplugged.
