my shop has a ramped entrance with a 9x7' overhead door at one end, and another very steep ramp and overhead door along a side which is too close to a fence to get anything larger than a Miata (it's been done) through the door.
So, if you wanted to get something as large and heavy as a 69 F250 not under it's own power into the shop, you might have to get creative. I could pull it in with another truck, but then I can't get it out and there is little room to work.
Neither the lawn mower or the 4 wheeeler would get it up the ramp alone. There were 3 guys involved and it was a pretty good show. I should have had the wife video it. You guys would have cracked up. My friend Jeff was pushing the truck from behind (nobody driving), me and another friend Branden were on the mower and the 4 wheeler. When we hit the ramp there was tire squalling and noise like we were at the drag strip, we had to grunt, moan bounce up and down and inched the truck up the ramp. It was quite the display!
I moved mine in the shop with a "come-along" attached to a hook the previous owner installed in the floor. It was slow, about 2 beer, but I never worked very hard and my mower lived to ride another day
LOL!! I would pay to see that, I love that kinda stuff. I had to get my old 1970 250 outta my yard awhile back,I'm to cheap to get a tow, so I wrapped a chain around the front bumper and dragged it with my 1970 250 4x4 about 2 miles and a couple of tires were locked so it was smokin and screechin all the way to my store yard.
I'd like to use a come-along, but I don't have anything I feel is strong enough. I sure would hate to pull down a wall or something :-)
We pulled one in last week with Jeff's Miata. It's small enough to drive out the other door. But we just put lowering springs on his miata, so it probably can't hanlde the steep exit ramp.
I need a bigger lawn tractor...yeah that's the ticket :-)
The lawn mower I have is 20HP, but it has one of these automatic transmissions, I really think these are a huge power loss. But our real problem was traction, the mower and 4 wheeler just aren't heavy enough.
Video would have been beautiful. I've used the come-along method before using 1k lb comealongs with human assistance from behind, and we were able to move a truck up an appreciable incline. But your solution is an excellent testament to American willpower and ingenuity. And you've got a really nice shop, too.
I also helped a friend move an MBG across town. I hooked up the chain to my F100, and he hooked up the chain to his MGB. It turns out that when you hook a chain to bodywork, it does a lot of damage. I'm glad I didn't help on his end. So, be careful where you hook up to.
Yah, I was lucky to find my house. When the realtor showed it to me, I walked through the front door out the back and saw the 1000 square foot shop and told her it was sold. My wife wasn't even there.
It's way full of junk now. I don't know where all this stuff comes from :-)
It does have high speed internet to hook me up with FTE when I get confused.
