I'm new to this site, and I have a 1972 Ford F250. I'm interested if anyone has swapped from the C6 to the AOD and what motor they had. I'm running the 360. So any info you guys can provide would be awesome and much appreciated. Thanks all.

AOD to FE adaptor here, just over halfway down the page. $850.
What mpg do you get now? 9? 10?. Do the math--if you picked up 20% and got up to 11 or 12, would it pay for the change? Keep in mind a decent AOD isn't free. And if you buy one, the '88-'93 units from behind a V8 or from a truck are the ones to get--early units are trouble.
To me one of the benefits beyond mileage is drivability; the fun of being able to drive it at 80 mph on the interstate without having the motor at 3200 rpms. If you compare spending 1500 to 2K on a swap like this to making payments on something newer, and if you really enjoy the truck, then for years and years long after the swap is paid for you'll enjoy driving it.
Just spend the money and do it right and you'll enjoy it for a long time.
So I will need an adapter for it. I was looking at Monster Transmission and they sell a kit that is roughly two grand for the entire kit to be swapped. And right now I have a fairly unfriendly to the highway gear, so that is a large part of the reason I wanna do the swap. Money isn't really an issue, I'm planning on pulling the 360 and putting in a new remaned one anyway. So I got step one outta the way, the linkage, adapter plate, how about the trans tunnel? Is that gonna need to change? The C6 I have anyway is going down the toilet, so this is gonna also be outta need, more than want.
You might consider staying with a C6 but putting an overdrive behind it. A used Gear Vendors can often be had pretty reasonable, and there is also the Doug Nash/US Gear unit that can be found used. I've seen a few of these, and have one sitting waiting for me whenever I feel like bothering to go pick it up. Here's a little explanation of the differences and similarities:
Yeah, I had pondered using a gear vendor, but I choose not to simply cause it will wind up costing me more in the long run with the new drive shaft, new transmission, and gear vendor unit. So it wasn't really worth it to me. Plus all I really need is that extra gear, I don't need to split all my gears. Though, I may consider one for my Merc.
I rarely use it for more than to overdrive 4th, though often third as well if I'm pulling a hill while in O/D and need as lower gear, I'll just leave it engaged and downshift the tranny. I was able to piece together a driveshaft from parts I had around so that wound up costing me nothing but my time and some u-joints.
No, I was talking about the Doug Nash/US Gear unit that goes on the back of a C6. My ex-boss has one sitting outside the shop that he said I could haul away. That's my favorite price, for that, I'd figure out a way to make it work if I didn't already have the GV unit in the truck.
I've seen the GV units selling used on craigslist for anywhere from about $600 up to $1500.
