OK, first, I have to admit I don't know much about wiring.
So here's the problem: I've just switched my 91 7.3 idi f350 engine, with a 93 7.3 idi e350 ambulance engine. Everything is done but this one problem. My glowplug relay smokes when I turn the key on. It's smoking at both ends of the battery cable. I have seen a picture of the wiring for a glowplug relay, and everything looks right. But somethings up, and I can't figure it out.
If the wiring is right start chasing for shorts. Check the glow plug wiring harness. Make sure that none of it is burnt or touching metal. Trace all the wires from the gp relay and make sure none are scorched or scarred. Sounds like you have a hot wire grounded out.
x2 on the hot wire ADT. I had that happen in the 84, i ended up making a manual GP push button switch. I would say you got a hot wire from the battery to the GP controller that is shorting out. I would also make sure its not burning up your glowplugs too. That is never a good thing lol. You put motorcraft GPs in right?
yes I just put motorcrafts in it when I switched the engines. I don't think it's been burning them out, because it's not hooked up, and it won't start unless it's been plugged in for a while.
I have a manual glow plug switch from the last engine. I haven't hooked it up to this relay yet though.
