Another VIN Decode

I know these VIN threads have been done a million times, but I'm looking into possibly buying the following truck.

1965 F-350 2wd VIN F35DK591769.

WB 132, Color J, Model F350, Body 581, Trans N, Axle 23

GVW 10k, Net HP 172, RPM 4000, DSO 550257

The engine has been changed; I believe it to be a 1970 360/390.
Intake manifold part # c9ae-9425-b (1969??)
Emissions tag: d0te-9c485-f (1970??)
Carburetor tag # c5tf-y

I'm looking for as much info as possible. The emblem on the hood suggests that it was originally a 6cyl, or has the hood been changed? I've found 3 different colors on it. Blue on top, red under that (along with interior), and white on the front end?? Also comes with original 1965 owners manual, still in decent enough shape to read through. Thanks in advance. I know you guys will be able to help me out.

Just off the top...

F35 = F350 2wd
D = 352 FE V8
K = Kansas City, MO build
591769 = Sequence number
132" wheel base
Color J = Rangoon Red

Others will need to chime in on the trans and axle.

Welcome to FTE

F35 = F350

D = 352 2V

K = Kansas City MO Assembly Plant.

591769 = 1965, assembled September 1964.

132" Wheelbase.

J = Rangoon Red.

F350, 10,000 lbs. GVWR

581: 5 = Red Crush Vinyl & Red Wicker Pattern Vinyl // 81 = 81A Standard Cab.

N = New Process 435 4 Speed Manual Transmission.

23 = Dana 70 Rear Axle / 5.13-1 / 7,400 lb. Rear Axle Capacity.

10,000 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.

172 net HP @ 4,000 RPM

550257:

55 = St. Louis MO Ford District Sales Office, where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from.

0257 = Domestic Special Order number. The truck was special ordered by the original purchaser, not "bought off the lot."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The intake manifold is from a 1969/72 F100/350 360/390 or 1969/71 Galaxie/LTD 390.

The number on the emissions tag...is for the tag itself, reflects 1970 F100/350.

The C5TF-Y carb is the 1965 original Auto-Lite 2V.
-------------------------------------------------
The problem with these (1953/66) F350's is: They have 6 lug 7.25" bolt circle wheels, the only Ford trucks that used them. 16, 17, 17.5 & 19.5 inch wheels were available.

The 16's and one type of 17's are non split rims, can be used with tube or tubeless tires. But the other 17's, 17.5's and the 19.5's are widow maker split rims.

Non split rims 16's and 17's are almost impossible to find. Tires for the 17.5 & 19.5 inch wheels are difficult to find and very expensive.

1953/67 F350's have drum brakes front/rear, while power brakes were available, only a few have F350's came with it.

With front/rear leaf sprinngs, these trucks ride like an oxcart and steer like a battleship since no P/S was available. No P/S from any other Ford truck will work without serious modifications.

IMO, taking everything into consideration, I would pass. If you need an F350, 1967/97's have 8 lug, 16" wheels, same as F250's except with DRW.

Disc brakes were an option 1968/72, standard equipment beginning in 1973. P/S was first offered mid-year 1969.

17.5 and 19.5 tires have a 15 degree bead taper, the 17.5 and 19.5 wheels are not lock rings.

It does have the solid 16" rims with radial tires on them. I would be using it as a "backup" (read: emergency) truck to pull the horses if necessary in an emergency situation while my current truck gets it bugs worked out (head gasket replacement or worse <gulp>). The wife won't let me tear into the current truck without the backup plan, and without spending a small fortune, this seems like a feasible option. The truck runs and drives, just needs a little work to get on road legally. Also, the current owner, if no one buys it soon, will be scrapping it. It was a dump truck, and he bought it for the bed; now he's stuck with the truck and wants to get rid of it ASAP. Once it has served its purpose and our current truck is back on the road again, it seems like it would be a neat build-up project; you just don't see that many F350's getting redone, at least, not around here. Body is very straight, only a small area on the rear driver's side of the cab which was Bondo'd before it was painted blue. Still unsure if I will buy or not, or whether she will let me, but I wanted to get all the info I could before I go any further.

5.13 gears?? No wonder he said it was really slow, but didn't have to downshift going uphill with 3 ton of rock in the dump bed!!
