First my IPR plug kept coming unplugged. Fixed that, got a new one with a metal hoop.
No other problems for a couple weeks, then we get a bit of a cold night last night (maybe down to 35 or so) and truck won't start this morning.
WTS light working as normal, volt gauge dropping down like the glowplugs are working, lots of white smoke from the tailpipe, but it just won't kick over...
I'm checking the glowplug/white smoke sticky, but does anyone else have any suggestions? GPR? GP's? Batteries low? (shouldn't be, but a possibility I guess)
If you can watch the volt gauge jump up after 2 minutes then I would guess the GPR is working. If it is then it could be some bad GP's or maybe the battery. If it does it again, mabye you could jump it before the batteries get to low to eliminate that.

Havn't had any cold start issues all winter with temps in the 20's. Last couple weeks it hasn't gotten below 40 degrees or so. Last night it just randomly dropped to near freezing, so maybe my batteries drained just enough to not spin at normal speed.

It has been fine. I guess if it's slowing down a bit it would make it harder to start if it was cold and the batteries were a bit discharged though...
Call the truck dirty names and threaten to push it off a cliff if it doesn't start.
Better yet, just show your truck some of Chase's pictures of Whitey and ask your truck if it would like to end up the same way. "Shape up or else!" LOL
Well got home from class and it was up to about 50 degrees outside. Didn't want to start the first time I tried with the GP's on for about 15 seconds.
Let the GP's go for about a minute the next time and it started up fine. Looks like some new GP's are gonna be ordered... maybe a new GPR just for sh**'s and giggles.

Sorry Chase, I couldn't resist...
I can see it now, the new talk on the forum... "whatever you do, don't Whitey it!"
Did you not try plugging in the block heater??? If it starts fine with the block heater plugged in for a couple hours, but won't start using GPs only... That'd tell you that you need new GPs(since you know your GPR is working).
Before you change GPs though, check the pins on the UVCHs if you haven't already. It coulda just melted the GP pins and not reached the injector pins to be noticed yet.
I'll check the pins before I swap them. I needed to get to class so didn't have time to plug in the block heater. Started fine when the outside temp was about 15 degrees warmer though. And no starting problems since then.
On a side note, my dad's '05 Dodge cummins feels like a turd compared to mine. The dodge was rated at 600 lb/ft stock and when he first bought that thing I though it was awesome. Lots of power, pretty fast (for a dually). It's got 3.73 LSD rear. But it seems to take FOREVER to accelerate compared to my Powerstroke. Those Stage I's and chip sure woke it up...
Grab a meter and see what kind of voltage you're actually getting out of the GPR. If you're in a hurry, just throw a screwdriver across the large posts and short the GPR for 30 seconds and see if that gets you started.
Lots of white smoke means you've either got several bad glow plugs (or burnt pins) or a bad GPR.
im driving a new 6.7 cummins flatbed for work now and god...its AWESOME being in a new towtruck finally but dang man i am not impressed with the power or the shifting at all!! the exhaust brake sounds MEAN and is super hand, other than that its a clam.
rant over ill stick with my ford, and when the time comes, ill have a 6.4
Pins all look good. Starts fine when it's warmer out. GPR seems to be working normally, but I might throw a new one on and keep a spare.
I drove my buddy's '08 Ram 6.7 Cummins. That thing was QUICK! I just don't like how the dodge trucks feel... Grown up with 80's and 90's fords and that's what I love.
