This one is for ND
What rear end came with it and what was the likely gear ratio?
I ask this because that is how mine was originally configured.
In 92 I bought and rebuilt a 390, basic with an RV Cam, 2V.
She ran like a raped ape and I never had any problems with it except a very minor rear main seal leak ( common I was told with 390's ) unless you were one of those mechanics that knew a trick or two to prevent it
And I swear that thing had more ***** than my 72 F250, 428, 4V running 3.73's ?
Aside from my current problem I know the engine is strong but it has never had the punch I expected, always bogged down getting into the secondaries at low speed. That 428 should break loose the rear tires in a heart beat but it can't/won't.
Once I figure out why she keeps dying and I get her runnning dependably again, I am going to rebuild the Carter AFB Comp on her. If that doesn't help then on to more trouble shooting.
Stay tuned. I will be busy this summer. Aside from the dependability issue needing to be resolved, I need to do the prep work for her makeup to be applied.
Post the AXLE code found on the Warranty Plate, located on the left door face below the latch.
THREE different rear axles were available in 1965 F100's: Ford 9" without Limited Slip / optional Dana 44 with Limited Slip / optional Dana 60.2 with Limited Slip.
The ratios range from 3.00-1 to 4.57-1.
