grind going into reverse unless i let the pedal up just until i hear idle drop hold it for 5 seconds at that spot then it will go in. Sometimes it will go in without grinding witout holding the pedal. im thinking synchos
Could be synchros. How does it do with the other gears? Its also possible something in the clutch is dragging and still spinning the input shaft. My truck had issues shifting into first and reverse, turns out The pilot bearing was shot and the input shaft was dragging on it spinning all the time.
Wow, talk about some mis-information. The F-Superduty transmission IS a 4x4 ZF trans. Unbolt the parking brake assembly that is currently on there and bolt on your transfercase.... Some peoples' kids I swear. Take it from someone who has done the F-Superduty ZF swap more than twice. Yank that parking brake off, bolt your transfer case on and slap that bad boy in there!

But then he has no parking brake. And its going in a superduty 2wd
Ah, correct......Since it's going into a 2wd F-Superduty.....I still don't understand the problem......I answered the question accordingly....I thought

I would say you have more of a clutch problem than a transmission problem. I don't believe there is synchros on the reverse gears, usually isn't. The input needs to fully stop to be able to shift a non synchro'd gear, and it obviously is not if it is grinding.Either the clutch is somehow hanging up, or the hydraulic system is not fully extending.
I'll bet the reverse gear teeth are pretty worn.....That's usually what happens...impatient drivers strip em out. It's a real big problem with tow truck issued ZFs.
